Routine Maintenance

Any piece of eVent® gear needs to be washed on a regular basis. This is purely due to the unique way that eVent® fabric is constructed. Please go to www.eVentfabrics.com for care and maintenance instructions plus information on how the fabric works, why it’s so breathable, and why it needs a bit more upkeep than other non-eVent® items. After all, you spend hard-earned money on your outdoor gear and you want it to last! Failure to keep your gear clean can result in reduced breathability and maybe even reduce its water repellency.

All waterproof items use a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish on their outer surface to make water ‘bead’ and roll off (like water off a duck’s back). This DWR finish will degrade with wear and tear, allowing garments to absorb moisture (wet out) into their outer fabric surface, making them feel cold and damp, and reducing breathability. The waterproofness of the garment should not be effected (this is taken care of by an inner coating or membrane), but the comfort of the garment in wet weather definitely will. Therefore, restoring the DWR treatment will make a big difference. By following eVent®’s website advice, and by regularly washing/treating your eVent® kit you will ensure that it “lets the sweat out” and quite simply last for years!
