Rab Story

Rab are committed to making outstanding gear for climbers and mountaineers who take it to the extreme in the world's harshest environments. For over 30 years Rab products have been designed for outdoor people. These products lead the way in function and design, because at the heart of the Rab brand there has always been a committed group of mountain enthusiasts.

Because Rab product designers have one clear aim - to design the best piece of kit for mountain or Polar environments - they demand the best components and materials, materials like eVent®. As we all know, staying dry is the key to being comfortable in the mountains and strenuous activity makes you sweat a lot! Traditional fabrics, including many 'breathable' materials reach a point where they don't let all the sweat escape, humidity reaches 100% and your base layers and shell lining start to get damp, you stop at a belay, and very soon you are shivering. Rab choose eVent® because with its superior Direct Venting technology, it breathes up to twice the rate of other breathable fabrics. The science and technology behind eVent® fabric is far from simple, but for Rab choosing eVent® for its shell mountain clothing the choice was simple.

Designing products using eVent® fabrics allows Rab to produce top end garments, where the design and function are not compromised by using inferior materials.

This is what Dunham Gooding, the President of the American Alpine Institute, says about the Rab Super Dru Jacket:

"The Super Dru has proved to be a dream jacket for our guides. It has all the features that we like, it is very light weight, and most importantly - it doesn't leak even after hundreds and hundreds of days of use in very difficult conditions. That's what waterproof, breathable jackets should do in theory, but we've used many brands and designs of jackets over the last three and a half decades of our international guiding, and none has held up like the Super Dru. The performance characteristics of the eVent material used in this garment are amazingly good, and the design and workmanship Rab has put into the construction is 'top of the line.' It's no surprise then that every guide at the Institute has put all their other shells aside in favour of the Super Dru."
